Ways to help keep your space organized
- Declutter Regularly: Start by getting rid of items you no longer use or need. Donate or discard items that are broken, expired, or duplicate.
- Categorize Items: Group similar items together, such as baking supplies, cooking utensils, spices, canned goods, etc. This makes it easier to find what you need quickly.
- Use Storage Containers: Invest in clear storage containers for dry goods like flour, sugar, rice, and pasta. This not only keeps them fresh longer but also makes it easier to see what you have at a glance.
- Maximize Cabinet Space: Utilize shelf risers, stackable shelves, and under-shelf baskets to maximize vertical space in cabinets. This helps to avoid clutter and makes it easier to access items stored at the back of the cabinet.
- Drawer Organizers: Use drawer dividers or organizers to keep utensils, measuring spoons, and other small items neatly arranged in drawers. This prevents them from getting jumbled together and makes it easier to find what you need.
- Install Hooks and Racks: Hang pots, pans, and cooking utensils on hooks or racks mounted on the walls or inside cabinet doors. This frees up cabinet and countertop space while keeping these items easily accessible.

- Label Everything: Label containers, jars, and bins to identify their contents quickly. This helps prevent confusion and saves time when cooking or baking.
- Utilize Vertical Space: Install shelves or racks on unused wall space to store items such as cookbooks, mugs, or decorative pieces. This frees up valuable countertop and cabinet space.
- Keep Countertops Clear: Store frequently used items like cooking oils, salt, and pepper within reach on the countertop, but keep the rest clear to provide ample workspace for meal preparation.
- Create Zones: Organize your kitchen into zones based on function, such as a baking zone, cooking zone, prep zone, etc. This streamlines the cooking process and ensures that everything you need for a particular task is easily accessible.
- Rotate Items Regularly: To avoid items getting lost or forgotten at the back of cabinets or pantry shelves, periodically rotate your stock. Move older items to the front and newer items to the back to ensure everything gets used before it expires.
Save or spend?
An aspect of kitchen storage is where decisions about spending and saving can significantly impact both the aesthetic and practicality of the space. When it comes to kitchen storage, should you splurge or opt for savings?

- Save or Spend: Investing in quality basics is important. Normally this is where you would want to spend a big extra money for a higher quality product. If it is something you are using daily think about getting something nice and spending a little bit less on lesser used items. Also a higher price tag doesn’t always mean better. Really look at the materials being used to judge if it is worth it
- Other ways to save: For those with a knack for creativity, DIY projects present an excellent opportunity to save on kitchen storage solutions. From building your own floating shelves to crafting decorative storage containers out of old boxes, there are many budget-friendly DIY ideas to explore. Not only does DIY-ing allow you to customize storage solutions to fit your space perfectly, but it also adds a personal touch to your kitchen decor. Don’t forget to check the thrift stores as well! Many times you can find some great second hand pieces.
Find what works best for you and your unique situation. If it is something practical or something esthetically pleasing to you I find jumping for the expensive option can be worth it. On the flip side if you are on a tight budget getting what you need at a lower price is just right. You can always upgrade later on as well. The most important thing is that your kitchen is organized and more functional for you. Looking for some more tips for the house? Check out our guide on creating a cozy living space.
